The rap superstar’s car was targeted by dozens of bullets in the early morning of Jan. 28 — and Rick crashed his car trying to escape the gunfire. Now, experts are warning the entertainer to arm himself with more security.

Rick Ross was celebrating his 37th birthday at LIV nightclub in Miami on the night of Jan. 27, but his celebration turned nearly fatal the next morning when his Rolls-Royce was targeted by a drive-by shooter.

Dozens of shots were reportedly fired at the car, TMZ reported, although none of them hit the actual vehicle. However, the Rolls-Royce crashed trying to escape the bullets. There have been no arrests, and suspects have not been identified.

Rick Ross Targeted By Gang Before Shooting

The alleged shooter or shooters are still at large, but it appears the attack on Rick may not have been a random act of violence. Members of the street gang called Gangsta Disciples began posting online videos in December threatening to shut down the rapper’s concert dates. Even though no connection has been made between the shooting and the gang’s threats, experts warn the rapper should remain cautious.

Rick Ross Should Beef Up Security After Drive-By, Say Experts

“I think this is a sad day for hip-hop because a lot of times we all partake in the entertainment of it, without realizing that hip-hop was always built on the foundation of realness and keeping it real,” Kim Osorio, editor-in-chief of The Source magazine and hip-hop journalist told MTV News on Jan. 28.

She has studied hip-hop music and the surrounding community since the ’90s, and reveals that the drive-by shooting was no accident.

“There were a lot of people who had a problem with what Rick Ross was doing. Now we’re in a situation where the entertainment has become a reality. People are actually trying to hurt him and I think that’s sad for us,” she said.

BrianB.DotMiller, of RapRadar.com agreed.

“I think the next step for Ross to take is security. Lots and lots of security,” he told MTV News. ”There is no shame in having security depending on your level of celebrity. Certain artists just can’t do things that regular people can do.”
