The designer sent a slew of formal looks down the runway and quite a few reminded us of the impeccably dressed characters in ‘Downton Abbey’ — check out his collection right here!
Designer Tadashi Shoji was inspired by the rise and fall of the Russian Empire when he was designing his Fall 2013 collection, but we also saw silhouettes and dresses that were very Downton Abbey! In fact, some of the frocks looked like they came right out of the closets of Lady Mary, Lady Edith and Lady Sybil, (RIP), and we LOVED it! If we ever got invited to dinner at Downton now we know what to wear! While the collection certainly had a distinct look it was also full of so many red-carpet-ready gowns.
The designer stayed true to his signature feminine asthetic, incorporating delicate lace and vibrant reds and blues into the looks he sent down the runway. Playing with texture, the designer incorporated sheer embellished panels into velvet gowns. I love the way the long-sleeved gowns got a sexy update thanks to the strategically placed, embellished sheer panels.
We have recently started to see long-sleeved gowns really make a return during awards season and I’m glad the designer is keeping the trend alive with his latest collection. In a sea of strapless gowns and mermaid silhouettes the long sleeves are really so refreshing — and it’s the perfect way to stand out, especially when so much skin seems to be in on the red carpet.
So far we’re seeing a lot of black and white this awards season, but red is also very on trend — and it looks like the sizzling looks are here to stay, if Tadashi has anything to say about it! We’re sure his celeb fans will be a huge fan of the looks — and I can’t wait to see who turns up wearing the Fall 2013 collection first!
