The season’s remaining designers hit the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC to showcase their new Fall/Winter 2013 designs – their final challenge in Season 11!
For the first time in the history of Project Runway, the contestants did not get to deliver their thank you speeches before their collections walked the runway! This means that the entire audience was left in the dark as to which designers actually made it to the finale — and who was associated with each look! Though atypical, this allowed for audience members to judge each collection critically, unbiased by the urge to root for their favorite designers. Six distinct collections were shown — get the scoop here!
Project Runway Season 11 Finale Show Secrets: Who’s In And Who’s Out?
One of the telltale marks of a great designer is to have a brand vision so distinct and cohesive that viewers could spot their look without the grand introduction. Though six collections were shown, only three of them represented the final three contestants on the show — the others were teaser collections designed by other eliminated contestants to keep the mystery alive. Audience members were happy to offer their guesses as to who the masterminds behind the runway looks really were — and which collections were finale-worthy!
Even though it is early in Season 11′s television airing, some designers have already managed to let viewers in on their personal style. Distinctly Native American-inspired decorations on one artistic collection clearly pointed to New Mexico based Patricia Michaels. Flawlessly tailored architectural garments created buzz that Austin, Texas’s Daniel Esquivel must have been part of the designer roundup! Jersey knit dresses paired with futuristic safety goggles (we’ll get back to this!) could belong to no other designer than Brooklyn’s Samantha Black.
Project Runway Season 11 Finale Show Designs: Perfect For Emma Stone & Miley Cyrus
With six designers showing on the runway, of course there were tons of new styles on display. We love this stunning textured coat for elegantly edgy celebs like Emma Stone. Graphic pieces like a mixed-sleeve sweatshirt/blouse combo would work well with Miley Cyrus‘ constantly evolving style wardrobe.
Project Runway Season 11 Finale Show Trends: Black & White & Blinged All Over!
Even with many voices coming through on the runway, we noticed cool Fall/Winter trends emerging even within the competition! Black and white garments reigned supreme, as the designers chose to embellish their looks with studs, graphic details, and texture rather than colors. One collection even included blinged-out safety goggles as futuristic edgy outwear. Another collection showed floppy Dr. Seuss worthy hairpieces that were truly hair-raising.
