When Oscar entered court Feb. 18, one day before Reeva’s funeral, he claimed he never meant to kill his girlfriend. Shooting her was an accident!
Oscar Pistorius‘ lawyers insisted Feb. 18 that their client had absolutely no intent of killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp when he shot four bullets into the bathroom door Feb. 14, hitting her with three. As his side of the story goes, Oscar believed there was an intruder in his home. When he heard noises in the bathroom, he was supposedly in bed without his prosthetic legs on and panicked.
He then sat up and fired four shots at the bathroom, where his girlfriend was. In court, he claimed he didn’t realize it was her until he noticed that she wasn’t in bed.
“It filled me with horror and fear,” Oscar said.
However, Prosecutor Gerrie Nel strongly believed Oscar had the intent to kill, and put on his prosthetic legs to walk the 23 ft. and shot knowingly at his girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Oscar explained that he put his legs on after the shots were fired, then pounded down the door using a bat and found Reeva wounded. He then carried her downstairs and claimed she “died in his arms.”
Reeva Steenkamp Funeral Details
Reeva was laid to rest Feb. 19 in her hometown of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, in a 90-seat chapel.
“Everyone is sad understandably, but at certain points we were smiling whilst remembering Reeva because we only have good memories of her,” Reeva’s brother Adam said of the 30-year-old model.
Oscar remains behind bars for the murder of his girlfriend; the hearing will resume Feb. 21.
