The President and his First Lady were joined by two very lucky members of the armed forces for their first dance at the Commander-in-Chief’s Ball — their very first stop of the evening!

It was the moment everyone had been waiting for — President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama‘s first appearance at the pair of inaugural balls they’d be attending on Jan. 21 to cap off Inauguration Day! Michelle revealed which lucky designer she’d chosen to wear, and Jennifer Hudson serenaded the First Couple!

The Presidential pair arrived first at the Commander-in-Chief’s Ball, honoring members of the armed forces. Barack graced the stage first, offering a few words of gratitude to all the members of the military. He then introduced his date for the evening, who revealed she had chosen a dashing Jason Wu gown for the evening, returning to the designer who dressed her back in 2009!

The two prepared for their first dance, while Jennifer Hudson was introduced. The Oscar-winning singer began Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” serenading the President with one of his favorite songs! Halfway through the dance, two very lucky members of the armed forces were introduced, who came out on stage so each could have a chance to dance with Barack and Michelle! How incredible!

President Barack Obama’s Opening Words

The President began his speech before the crowd by cracking a few jokes. “Let me begin by just saying, you all dress up pretty nice,” he said. “I hope everybody is having a wodnerful time. Now those of you who are in uniform, you look outstanding. Your dates do look better, though.”

He got a bit more serious, though, expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the crowd before him. “I’m not gonna give a long speech. What I really want to do is come down and express the extraordinary gratitude, not just of me, your Commander-in-Chief, but of the American people.” Well said!

Do you think the President and Michelle looked incredibly in love during their first dance, HollywoodLifers?
