One day after 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 'Saturday Night Live' opened with a tribute to those lost on Dec. 15.
The New York City Children's Chorus opened the Dec. 15 episode of
Saturday Night Live by singing "Silent Night," a clear departure from
SNL's usual comedy routine-type opening. The song was performed in tribute to the 20 children and six adults who were shot and killed by
Adam Lanza, 20, on Dec. 14 at
Sandy Hook Elementary School.
At the closing of the Christmas song, the chorus turned back to tradition and shouted, "Live from New York, it's
Saturday Night!"
