New judges, new season and a new attitude just might be the right ingredients for this year’s ‘American Idol’ to be its best yet!

I have had the fortune of being in the audience and backstage at American Idol for the past couple years, and seeing how things are working out, this could be the best season yet! After tonight’s Season 12 premiere, you might be agreeing with me. Let me tell you why!

I Hate Nicki Minaj!

I never will understand the phenomenon that is Nicki Minaj, and my dislike for her will be perfect for this year’s show. If you don’t have a villain on any show that you like, then it isn’t reaching its full potential. You can have bad judges, like Ellen Degeneres or Kara DioGuardi, but they were just bad because they didn’t fit the format well.

There is actual dislike for Nicki, that apparently Mariah Carey shares with me, so I am not alone. But if Nicki plays her cards right, she will get underneath my skin, and the skin of millions of other viewers, from week to week, but she also might surprise us all. She is a complete wild card, and for a show that has a super nice judge like Keith Urban, a pointless Randy Jackson, and an iconic, and potentially off-the-rails, Mariah, it pretty much sells itself.

I Always Pick The Winners!

Whatever reality based singing show is on the air, I always seem to have an uncanny way of picking who will win the show and who will be voted off from week to week. Just look at previous articles from seasons past and you will see — it is well documented. That is a constant joy of mine. But this year might be a little different. I feel that it may be a little more difficult this season to pick a winner, and I love that challenge. I want to be excited with the show from week to week, and with tons of talent coming from all over America this year, it should be a whirlwind of great performances. Something that would be different this year would be a girl actually winning! Speaking of that….

Will A Girl Win The This Season Of ‘American Idol’?

A girl has not won the show since Season 6, when Jordin Sparks took the crown. When HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY asked Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe if he would feel bad in any way if a girl didn’t win the show this year he gushed, “I get my favorites. I'm human and I like my favorite. I've never been disappointed with any one of the winners with the shows that I've been involved in. I've been disappointed in losing people a little too early along the way. Even in the first season Tamyra Gray, I was really upset at losing along the way, but thrilled that Kelly Clarkson won. I don't have a personal involvement from that point of view. I have a favorite; normally my favorite revolves around who I pick in the draw and hopefully I'll win the $150 at the end of the series. But in truth I don't have a horse in the race and I like to keep it that way so that nobody can make allegations about ‘Oh, his favorite won, how did that happen?’”

There are a million other reasons why I think this season could be the best, and I look forward to seeing how it all plays out. But I will certainly be the first to admit if it’s a train wreck. We shall see…

So HollywoodLifers, do you think this will be the best season yet of American Idol? Sound off below!
