Children Recall The Tragic Shooting At Connecticut Elementary School Dec 14th 2012, 20:45 The terrified students at Sandy Hook Elementary School recall the horrifying moments when an armed gunman stormed their school and fired at what is believed to be 100 rounds, killing nearly 30 people. Students were quickly evacuated to the local firehouse, and parents waited anxiously to see if their precious children were all right. Close to 30 people are believed to be dead after the tragic shooting that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14 -- and at least 18 of the deceased victims are believed to be children. The shaken survivors recalled the terrifying moments when what is believed to be nearly 100 rounds of ammunition.  One man recalled how his younger sister became aware of the shooting when she heard bullets over the school's intercom system. "It really started when she heard gunshots and screams on the intercoms," the unidentified relative told MSNBC. "She heard screams. They were hiding in a tiny closet all bundled up. They were hearing screams and it was horrible." When the police arrived, "they were told to hold hands and close their eyes," he said. "What was in there must have been very gruesome."
