One man recalled how his younger sister became aware of the shooting when she heard bullets over the school's intercom system. "It really started when she heard gunshots and screams on the intercoms," the unidentified relative told MSNBC. "She heard screams. They were hiding in a tiny closet all bundled up. They were hearing screams and it was horrible." When the police arrived, "they were told to hold hands and close their eyes," he said. "What was in there must have been very gruesome."
